It's still light outside!

This morning we awoke to a great looking day. The fluffy white clouds were floating peacefully in the deep blue sky. We ate breakfast and Packed up. The misquotes were in full force, and we donned the nets

We got to camp by the lake and it was a very peaceful night. Keith had an issue with his heated grips, so we took the time and made sure they worked.

At 9:00 we rolled out. The blue sky soon changed to gray and yep, it started raining. It would last the rest of the day.

The mountain peaks would peer through the clouds as if playing a game of hide-and-go-seek. Had it been a clear day it would have been spectacular.

At a gas stop we met Martin and Dan. Each of them were riding solo, Martin from CA and Dan from WA. We were all headed in the same direction and decided to all ride together. We continued on towards the Cassier Highway.

FROM THIS EXACT POINT MY ALASKA TRIP STARTED!!
For years I envisioned myself standing beside this and a few other signs that will pass us by on this trip. I road 4000 miles to begin my trip at this exact place. What a dream come true!

The Cassier highway is a two lane road in the middle of nowhere. Green trees and shrubbery line both sides for miles. Beyond the trees there are majestic mountains that look down on us as we hummed along at 100 kph. (65 mph)

Despite the rain constantly falling it was a truly breathtaking experience. Traffic was minimal as the road winded it's way northwest.

A GPS, Spot Locater, and a old school paper map

Even my bike worked nonstop in the rain without complaining

While we were drying out we met a couple from Germany who were riding from anchorage to padagonia. They had already done other trips over 40,000 kilometers and this one would total 30,000.

  1. Your journey looks amazing! Something I'll probably never do, so thanks for letting me live vicariously through this site. When we were in Australia a couple years ago, we met a guy from Europe (forget which country) who rode through the Middle East, China, Southeast Asia, then took a ferry over to Australia and riding across Australia. He was at it for about 9 months when we met up with him, he had everything on his bike and some sourvenirs from his stops. We took a picture with him, I should try to see if I can find it.
